DREW
Meet Drew, he’s a 16yr old teenager who lives with his parents in MS. In school, he gets average grades, and can keep up with school work fairly well. He’s as organized as most teenagers, but, he has a phone and also relies a lot on notes he takes.
He has a few friends he connects with online, but for the most part, he spends his time either in school or on his computer, working on his influencer career.
Turns out, all this time he was spending in the computer with his friends, he was actually building a community, and an online persona, he has become a sensation in that field!
He talks to his parents to get advice on how to pursue growing his sudden career, and, together they decide that if he could do online courses, he would have more time and freedom to work from anywhere should things take off and he’d need to start traveling.
At school, the counselor provides them with some ideas, and this is how they were introduced to MNOHS.
THIS IS MNOHS!
Disrupting the online education system and bridging the gap of communication between teachers and their students through data visualization.
MNOHS is an online school that can be used anywhere in the world, as a matter of fact, they have educators located as far as Greece!
With MNOHS, Drew can take his courses online, he has a way to connect with his educators, can complete his homeschool and download documentation.
He has complete view of his progress which is marked automatically in his report card, so that he and his parents can keep track as well.
The curriculum of MNOHS is carefully curated by experts, and follows all of the accreditations (and then some) required to graduate high school in almost all countries (there are some exceptions, of course)
MNOHS works on his Iphone but also in his Dad’s Android and is a 24/7 operation, making it the best partner that Drew can have to explore this new, unusual phase of his life while not affecting his education process.
He joins MNOHS and meets other students who are located all over the world, turns out, MNOHS is also used by Olympian athletes, kids who live overseas because their parents work there, children from military families, and kids in similar situations to Drew.
drew’s progress
Drew can open the app, and immediately sees his progress in the home screen with some cool data visualization going on.
He really likes all the colors, they are easy to view in his screen, and can tell what the different icons mean since there’s mapping.
He can also access his classes quickly directly from the buttons in the home screen.
Once he clicks on a subject, he can see what work he turned in and his progress in the specific course, which helps him stay on track with his day.
talent check
Just like in regular school, what Drew learns is not just main subjects, he’s also getting an education in talents that the school identified as important for growth.
MNOHS identified that students also need to develop skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, confidence, media literacy, financial literacy, creative innovation and community engagement.
To graduate, a student needs to earn “Tokens”, these tokens are earned by performing certain tasks, once the task is completed, the idea is to average the talent skills.
For example, a token can be earned by tutoring someone in the class, and all the skills used to perform this task, such as communication, collaboration and critical thinking - that’s 3 tokens!
Drew decides to give this a go, and volunteers for an entire day at the Soup Kitchen, he figures he can do as much good as he can.
TOKENS
Drew goes into the app, and clicks on Talent Check to request his Tokens he needs to collect. He can choose as many as he wants in the form, someone will verify anyway, but adding what he thinks is appropriate provides the educator verifying a good starting point of what type of credit he is looking for.
He fills out the quick form, but it does take him a few extra seconds to decide what type of tokens he’s applying for, which helps him with critical thinking anyway.
Spending an entire day at the Soup Kitchen, Drew was able to apply for all 8 tokens! He used all of his skills that day while also spreading some good!
HAPPY ENDINGS
Now drew can pursue his influencer career without hurting his education, his parents are happy with his progress and he can still connect with other kids, makes new friends, collects tokens and stays well plugged into his community by collecting tokens.
